💡 Pro tip
If you can't see the truck driver's face in their side mirror, they cannot see you — at all. Stay out of the deep rear zone, pass briskly on the left, and don't move back over until the whole cab appears in your rearview mirror.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Cruising alongside a trailer — you can sit in a blind spot for miles without the driver ever knowing.
- Passing on the right, where a truck's blind spot is widest and lane changes come without warning.
- Cutting back in early: trucks need football fields to stop, and you just erased their cushion.
