💡 Pro tip
Think 'where would it roll?' — then aim the front tires so the curb (or the road edge) catches the car. Downhill: toward the curb. Uphill with a curb: away from it, and roll back until the tire rests on it. No curb: toward the edge. Every time: parking brake, firmly.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Turning the wheels the same way for uphill and downhill — the rules are opposites for a reason.
- Skipping the parking brake because the street 'looks flat.' Set it every single time.
- Uphill with a curb: turning the wheels but never letting the tire settle back against the curb — the gap lets the car build rolling speed.
