💡 Pro tip
Unpainted curb isn't automatically legal — scan for a hydrant (15 ft), a crosswalk, a driveway, and posted signs before you commit. Then park within 18 inches of the curb and check your street-side mirror before opening the door.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Stopping 'just for a second' at a red curb — it's never legal, even with you in the car.
- Parking at a blue curb without a placard. The fine is huge and the space belongs to someone who needs it.
- Forgetting the 15-foot bubble around fire hydrants because the curb there isn't painted red.
